TECHNOLOGY IS ALLOWING us to do things we've never been able to do, and it's positively incredible," but it's also amazingly "addictive." We can occupy ourselves with it to the point of exhaustion. Strategies for Coping in a World Gone ADD-and cell phones in particular are a case in point. Let's be clear. Even the most ardent cell phone critic will acknowledge their usefulness in times of duress. Indeed, a whopping 83 percent said cell phones make life even easier than does the Internet (which garnered a huge 76 percent nod in the same survey), according to a 2005 University of Michigan study.
So, what's with all the negativity about cell phones? Or put in tech-eese, What's their counterintuitive disadvantage?
